In light of the more serious topics that I have covered recently, as well as being motivated by the recent smear ads from the Republican candidate John McCain’s camp on Barack Obama’s “celebrity” status, I’ve decided to scour the web and find some of the more humorous videos that I can find related to Mr. McCain. I was sure that there would be plenty of material available, and in fact, I was not disappointed. From flip-flopping on policies, looking awkward and dumbfounded when asked a difficult question, proud admissions of key personal flaws and even wtf moments where he reveals his true nature and mindset … I’ve tried to collect some of the best material out there to create the Top Ten. That being said, I’m sure that I have probably missed some as well, so for those of you that are inclined, feel free to post up additional videos that you think is worthwhile to the comments of this blog entry. Thanks in advance!
So without further ado …. drum roll please!
Number 10: Out of Touch McCain can’t remember the price of Milk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16bdiY7L17M
McCain tries to show that he feels the pain of the masses with the rising food costs, yet in this staged event he cannot recall the price of milk without help of a cue card! It’s either he’s too senile to remember, or he’s not in touch at all. Neither answer bolds well for the senator.
Number 9: McCain’s Top Issue to Voters: Stay out of the Sun!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0–6nGuLjM
To show that he’s in touch of the worries of the everyday American, McCain decides to give a back story of his visit to his dermatologist and gives sound advice to the American people to use sunscreen and stay out of the sun. Thumbs up, Sidney! How about your thoughts on the economy, energy independence and foreign policy? No comment on those issues and instead walk away before you need answer any tough questions. I like the little shot at the end by the reporter asking about McCain’s health … a cheap shot nonetheless but well-timed.
Number 8: Al Qaeda in Iran or Not
http://www.videosift.com/video/McCain-Its-common-knowledge-Iran-training-al-Qaeda-WRONG
Showing his vast knowledge of foreign policy and military threats, McCain indicates that Iran is a threat because it is “common knowledge” they are training Al Qaeda terrorists … only to be quickly corrected by Senator Lieberman that the common knowledge is only his own since Iran religious lines is in conflict with and does not support Al Qaeda.
Number 7: McCain Cracks Himself Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45SQJB-CoPQ
This is a good McCain moment. As he tries to trivialize Obama’s visit to Europe, he pops a joke and can’t stop laughing at his own joke. Any moment now you almost expect him to topple over from all the excitement! Watch your health Senator …
Number 6: Geography is not his best subject but Foreign Policy is!
http://www.videosift.com/video/McCain-shows-geographical-ignorance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67ANtTZpCmE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2v8cuQTVO8&feature=related
On his thoughts about the current situation in Iraq, McCain mentions the Iraq-Pakistan border … conveniently forgetting that the whole country of Iran is in between them. Whoops! Perhaps to make up for his forgetfulness on Iran, McCain muses on how he would handle Iran by casually comparing his tactics to a Beach Boy song … “Bomb-Iran”.
Number 5: McCain Doesn’t know how to Use a Computer, Proud D student
http://www.webtvhub.com/john-mccain-was-a-d-student-video-admits-he-graduated-894th-of-899/
This is more frightening than humorous, that a person so out of touch, so below average is running for president. I would think that the America people would want somebody that is in touch with the Information age and scholastically above average to lead them, n’est pas?
Number 4: McCain on Economics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaR1CnfyrEo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5o9jmT7-sQ
With the stagnant economy being one of the top issues on American minds, listening to McCain’s rhetoric on inflation, interest rates and it all being “psychological” is more scary than funny. Do you seriously believe this man has any answers to stimulating the economy?
Number 3: McCain’s Viagra Moment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDGvEEgXKJU
The title speaks for itself. But seeing McCain’s dumbfounded face and huge long pause is classic!
Number 2: McCain Campaign Slipups
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iWYAOMYmp0
From misusing and forgetting words, spending his time vetoing “beer”, making sure that dehydrated babies have hot bottle water, and searching for “Bob”, this is a nice mashup of what we will now affectionately call … McCain moments.
Number 1: The Commander-in-Chief Test
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgF39TRCPPE
A good compilation of of McCain moments with a twist of humour … if you only watch one of these videos, this is the one to watch.
There were many others that I found where quite funny but they were more spoof videos and I wanted to focus on real McCain moments in the Top 10. However, here a couple that were more silly than real, but gave me a nice laugh nonetheless.
Silly Video 1: Farting McCain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I270syK9_zw
Silly Video 2: Cursing McCain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCXOZpwT2ek
Take some time an enjoy a McCain moment … it’s makes for great comedy!
McCain’s POW Card
Tags: economic policy, foreign policy, john mccain, mccain moments, presidential election, republican party
One of the favourite games that I played during my youth was Monopoly. As simple and straight forward as the game was, the core fundamentals that it taught in terms of investing and building capital is close to genius. Even today I know people that apply the basic principal of buying smaller properties to build equity, and when the time comes, trade in the smaller properties for a larger one. Now I can go on and on reminiscing about my youth, but that maybe a bit off topic. :) Instead the point of bringing up the game of Monopoly is to remind people of the carte blanche, “Get out of Jail Free” card that every player loved to have in their back pocket. It was your one ace up your sleeve that you could use if you got into a jam and needed a ticket out. Now how good would it be if you had something like that you can use in real life!
Well, it looks like John McCain has taken that concept to a whole other level, as he and his supporters have continued to use the fact that he was once a POW as the answer to any difficult question McCain can’t answer or to deflect a campaign gaffe he makes. When asked what he knows about the economy, his answer - he was a POW. When asked about his foreign policy experience, his answer - he was a POW. When the topic of his extra-martital affairs came up regarding cheating on his first wife, his supporters defended him with the answer - he was a POW. When trying to put out the negative publicity of McCain not knowing how many houses he has, a problem most Americans can’t relate with, his supporters defended him with the answer - he was a POW.
It doesn’t take a genius to fingure out what is going on here. Whenever John McCain has a “McCain Moment”, he is quick to pull out the POW card to distract people away from the topic. If I do recall, Monopoly only has two of these “Get out of Jail Free cards” and the McCain camp has long exhausted that number. The scary thing is, this is not a game that is being played. The current presidential election is being held at a critical point in the global society. With the American economy in a recession, the push for innovation stagnating, future powers such as China, India and Russia emerging, the United States needs a forward thinking leader that is in touch with today’s challenges, to be able to compete. It is obvious that McCain does not have the abilities or the judgement to do so. He trivializes his own POW story by using it out of context and deflecting critical questions that need to be answered. This is not what you want in the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.
John McCain may think that the whole presidential election is a game, and that’s his prerogative to do so. I just hope and pray that the American people do not just play along, and hold this event in the serious lime light that is required. McCain has used up all of his POW cards … time to call him on it.
