It has been merely four days since the surprising, yet historical selection of Sarah Palin, the current Governor of Alaska, as John McCain’s running mate for vice president. On initial glance, her story is one that is quite remarkable.
- She was able to usurp the incumbent corrupt Republican governor on the banner of reform.
- She’s a mom of five and proclaims herself as a family oriented “hockey mom”.
- She’s a former beauty pageant contestant and finished as runner up in the Miss Alaska contest.
- She has an 80%+ approval rating, the highest of any current governor in the United States.
- She apparently refused to waste government money on the “Bridge to Nowhere” project. A bridge that would connect the Alaskan mainland to an island of approximately 50 people.
And now add to her resume, the first woman vice president candidate of the Republican party. If the list of her accolades above seem a bit scarce for a person running for vice president, it is … but that’s because she is so new to the scene that not many people outside of Alaska know too much about her.
However, now that John McCain has selected her as his vice president running mate, you can be sure that we will learn a lot more about her, and the stories are already coming out. Since the initial announcement on Friday, we have been finding out more and more about John McCain’s ideal choice as running mate:
- She’s currently under investigation regarding abuse of power to get her former brother-in-law, a State trooper, fired from his position.
- She’s being questioned regarding the authenticity on whether or not her youngest child, Trig Paxson Van Palin, is really her child as opposed to being her grandson!
- She has claimed that she was against the “Bridge to Nowhere”, yet when she was running for governor in 2006, she was actually for the bridge project. A clear flip-flop and false claim during her introduction.
- She claims that she has an approval rating of over 80%. That may have been true before at a point in time, but no longer true as the current residents in Alaska have rated her at around 65% and falling, especially as her current scandals are revealed.
- She has previously claimed that she has no idea what a VP does on a daily basis. Yet now McCain feels that out of all of the stars in the Republican party (Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Condoleeza Rice, etc), she was the best candidate for the job.
- Her foreign policy experience has been endorsed by Cindy McCain since Alaska is the closest state to Russia.
- Her 17-year-old daughter has just been revealed to be 5 months pregnant out of wedlock and her husband was charged with DUI. This is contrary to the clean, pure image that was portrayed during her introduction, as well, her daughter’s pregnancy before marriage is against the type of conservative values that she promotes.
Now under any other situation, all of these flaws with Sarah Palin would not really matter. After all, she is the governor of Alaska, and the harsh reality is that the politics in Alaska only has interest to those living there, and not on a national stage. However, since McCain has shown again his poor judgement and lack of respect for the presidential office and what the responsibility of it is, he has thrown Sarah Palin on the national stage and spotlight, even though she is not ready nor qualified to be there. The fact that John McCain has only met her once, before calling her to offer her the job shows a total lack of judgement on his part and a critical flaw in his character. If he can make the decision of choosing his running mate, a person that would be a heart beat away from the presidency, on a whim, then how would he handle all of the other critical decisions that will come up?
Iran is thumping its chest again … bomb Iran! Russia threatens to take action against Georgia … bomb Russia! Another hurricane is threatening the Gulf Coast … eat cake! Being the President of the United States is no joke, yet John McCain continues to make a mockery of it. Next thing you know, he’ll pull out his POW card to justify his “carefully vetted” pick of Palin for vice president.
John McCain puts country first? Give me a break. Please don’t insult the intelligence of your electoral base.

As a mother myself I find it appalling that Gov. Palin would put her daughter into such public scrunity by accepting the vice presidential nomination. Her 17-year-old daughter has enough to worry about now becoming a teenage mom, and now her whole story will be under the national spotlight.
This is not the decision making I would accept as a mother, let alone a vice president!
Take that liberals! Sarah Palin is a wolf in sheep-skin. Or in her own words “Pitbull with Lipstick”. She’s going to eat up all you cry baby whiners. I’m proud of my party again.
McCain / Palin 2008!!!!
